What is the Manna Festival

The Manna Festival of Pollina celebrates one of Sicily’s rarest and most valuable products: manna, a natural resin extracted from the ash tree and used since ancient times for its nutritional and beneficial properties.

The cultivation of manna ash trees most likely dates back to the Arab domination (9th–11th century AD). In the 1800s the manna ash tree was widely cultivated in Sicily, particularly in the hilly territories of the Madonie Park.

During the event the village comes alive with:

  • tastings of manna-based products
  • food stands
  • music and shows
  • guided tours of the ash groves

A tradition that becomes international

Pollina is one of the few places in the world where manna is still harvested by hand. Over the years the festival has become an event that attracts visitors from all over Italy and foreign tourists curious to discover this Sicilian excellence.

The festival promotes:

  • the agricultural tradition of the Madonie
  • the promotion of local products
  • sustainable and authentic tourism.
